lil' known fact: When I was born, I had cherry red cheeks and my aunt gave me the nick name “Cherry” which has been used by my friends and family ever since.

brag-spot: I wrote for Echoes from the Streets, a youth newspaper in my hometown. And I had a learning disability (and overcame it) now I'm on the Honor Roll.

SOUL

From Amanda: Fri - Apr 29
Shacoya, I just want to know where you get all of your soul that you put into that song? Your ad was great.

Posted by Shacoya: Fri - Apr 29
I'm glad you like the ad. When writing a poem, I write about what I'm genuinely feeling at the moment. I believe the best poems are poems that come from the heart.

THE AD

From Kelly: Fri - Apr 29
How do you feel now that you have been in an ad that influenced so many teens? How has your life changed since the ads started running?

Posted by Shacoya: Fri - Apr 29
Wassup, Kelly Kel. The fact that I was able to speak out nationally against marijuana through my poetry made me feel like I have set the tone for a new beginning. I know my commercial didn’t change the world, but the fact that I’m getting these questions from you means that some of you heard me, and for that I am proud. My life is still pretty much the same. Many people recognize me from my TV ad, but I'm still Shacoya (A.K.A Cherry Pop), the tall, light skin poet trying to make it. However, since the commercial, I have become even more motivated for some reason, like in school, and outside of school.

STAND UP

From Beth: Thur - Apr 28
What inspired you to stand out from the crowd and stand up for what you believe in? I think it was really brave.

Posted by Shacoya: Thur - Apr 28
I guess my courage to stand up for what I believe in comes from a prevailing desire for change. It’s time for teenagers to take leadership to a next level. We need stand up for ourselves and become independent thinkers. I guess my courage to stand up for what I believe in comes from a prevailing desire for change.
